Biochar-mediated remediation impacts on nitrogen cycling bacteria and ammonia monooxygenase activity in crude oil polluted soil

چکیده

This study adopted an ecosystem services approach to pollution management by investigating the impact of biochar-mediated remediation on soil nitrogen, abundance nitrogen cycling bacteria and activity ammonia monooxygenase (AMO) enzyme in petroleum-polluted using two biochar types applied at treatment levels with monitoring over 15 weeks. The corn cob-derived (CDB), generally, had a stronger restorative effect ammonium nitrate total organic concentrations than bone-derived (BDB). Both more robust restoration Nitrosomonas, Nitrobacter Azotobacter (with re-establishment pre-pollution levels) Rhizobium Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Biochar amendment restored AMO week 15. CDB (72.4% – 73.7%) showed effective petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) elimination capacity BDB (51.1% 57.7%). amendments exhibited great potential for while facilitating soils.

Biochar for soil remediation and land reclamation

Land reclamation generally relates to the improvement of soils degraded by human activities, for example construction and certain forms of agriculture. Soil remediation refers to the process of removing, neutralizing or reducing the toxicity of certain compounds, often left by human activities such as mining and industry. Each degraded and/or contaminated site is potentially unique in its chara...

Impacts of silver nanoparticles on cellular and transcriptional activity of nitrogen-cycling bacteria.

The widespread use of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) raises the potential for environmental releases that could impact microbial ecosystem services. In the present study, the authors address how the AgNPs and Ag(+) that they release may impact nitrogen-cycling bacteria. The authors studied the cellular and transcriptional response of the denitrifier Pseudomonas stutzeri, the nitrogen fixer Azotob...

Biochar Decelerates Soil Organic Nitrogen Cycling but Stimulates Soil Nitrification in a Temperate Arable Field Trial

Biochar production and subsequent soil incorporation could provide carbon farming solutions to global climate change and escalating food demand. There is evidence that biochar amendment causes fundamental changes in soil nutrient cycles, often resulting in marked increases in crop production, particularly in acidic and in infertile soils with low soil organic matter contents, although comparabl...

Effects of different remediation treatments on crude oil contaminated saline soil.

Remediation of the petroleum contaminated soil is essential to maintain the sustainable development of soil ecosystem. Bioremediation using microorganisms and plants is a promising method for the degradation of crude oil contaminants. The effects of different remediation treatments, including nitrogen addition, Suaeda salsa planting, and arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) fungi inoculation individually...

Haematoxic Effects following Ingestion of Nigerian Crude Oil and Crude Oil Polluted Shellfish by Rats

The haematological effects following ingestion of shellfish exposed to crude oil polluted water or the pollutant perse were investigated in albino Wistar rats. Feeding of four groups of rats for 28 days duration with two reference casein or shellfish protein control diets (Group A and B), and two test diets (Group C and D) supplemented at varying levels with shellfish which had been previously ...
